Description:

The Senior Electrician provides skilled electrical maintenance to a variety of systems and equipment, including installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment such as lighting, motors, generators, controls, conduits, and wiring. This role may also lead or provide training and direction to less experienced electricians.

Work may include: providing on-call emergency response; implementing new electrical technologies such as automated control systems, LED lighting, and solar power; performing preventative maintenance of high- and low-voltage systems; troubleshooting electrical issues; overseeing new projects; reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and schematics; operating equipment such as bucket trucks, backhoes, and forklifts; using diagnostic equipment such as ammeters, ohmmeters, and thermography devices; monitoring energy usage; sourcing parts and materials; and following all safety regulations.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment, including scheduling work.
  • Installing and maintaining circuits, lighting, motors, conduits, wiring, high-voltage switch gears, and related equipment.
  • Performing inspections of fire alarms and sprinkler systems.
  • Conducting preventative and routine maintenance checks.
  • Troubleshooting equipment; reading blueprints, schematics, and code books; and designing electrical systems.
  • Handling administrative tasks such as ordering parts, maintaining records, and updating databases.
  • Assisting other trades, including lock-out/tag-out procedures for safety.
  • Participating in training and development to stay current on best practices.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Formal training in electrical functions.
  • Six years of electrician experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician certification.
  • Valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record; must obtain state drivers license within 30 days of hire.
  • Some assignments may require a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • The National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).
  • Electrical theory (Ohms Law, Kirchhoffs Law, etc.).
  • Utility plant operations (e.g., water purification).
  • Electrical and mechanical equipment/systems (gear boxes, motors, pumps, compressors).
  • Occupational hazards and safety procedures.
  • CMMS or similar systems for logging work and ordering materials.
  • Mathematics, including algebra and geometry.
Skills in:
  • Using electrical tools with precision.
  • Troubleshooting electrical systems and components.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Applying algebraic and geometric formulas in the electrical field.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Organization, time management, and customer service.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
Abilities to:
  • Think critically and analyze problems.
  • Apply safety procedures consistently.
  • Train and guide less experienced staff.
