Shipping Clerk

The successful candidate must have computer skills and the ability to understand the inner workings and relationships between all departments within our software and company. The ideal candidate is one who takes ownership in the department in which they work and learns how all the departments are dependent on one another for information and support. The primary daily task is to securely package parts to ship to our customers. Sometimes the boxes are simple reinforced cardboard and sometimes they are built like a battleship to withstand the journey across the country to their final destination. We ship our products via several freight lines including UPS, FedEx and Customer Pickup. Packaging, boxing (wooden box building), loading trucks, using forklifts, and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs are considered everyday activities. (A carpenter or carpentry experience is desirable but not required.) The Shipping Clerk schedules a truck and provides the required paperwork for our customer. Once shipping activities are complete you will distribute cutting tools and supplies to the production personnel and accurately manage the inventory in the toolroom. After the shipping and shop tool requests have been satisfied you will search the computer for upcoming shipments and start preparing for the next shipment. Receiving: This task involves receiving in any tooling that arrived on our dock that day, entering data into our computer, putting parts and materials in their proper locations, entering and attaching ALL documentation that comes in with the freight, and ensuring inventory is correct. Purchasing: This task involves running an Automatic Reorder Summary through our computer system to determine what supplies we need to purchase to keep our inventory up to date, sending out RFQ (Request for Quote), then making a final decision and generating a Purchase Order. The successful candidate must learn our unique company operating software. (Training will be provided.) Required Skills Ability to work in a very structured environment. Ability to follow instructions and work with management to resolve issues while working cordially with co-workers. Ability to plan by looking forward and considering ever-changing circumstances. Ability to learn/make logical decisions based on ever-changing circumstances. Ability to learn/understand relationships between company departments such as production, shipping, job planning, accounting, inventory. Ability to learn/understand the relationship between computer functions such as inventory, purchasing, accounting, production. Ability to work in the best interest of BandS Machines while satisfying customer needs. Ability to be prompt and work overtime when required. Ability to understand basic math and geometry. Ability to accurately read tape measures and scales. Ability to accurately attach/manage files and documents in a computer. Ability to learn/understand shipping software for multiple carriers (UPS, FedEx, LTL, Commercial Invoices.) Ability to learn/understand the BandS software (E2 Shoptech) used for running our entire company. Physically capable of lifting and working with objects up to 50 pounds. Physically capable of using equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts to handle items that weigh over 50 pounds. (Safety training will be provided) Physically capable of operating power tools such as nail guns, screw guns, table saw, panel saw, skill saw, etc. (Safety training will be provided) Physically and mentally capable of operating a forklift and special aids while loading and unloading trucks. (Safety training will be provided) Physically capable of working alone (after ample training) to calculate size and build boxes and shipping crates strong nough to withstand the handling and transport abuse while parts are in route to customer.
