Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Desktop Support Technician to provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for desktop and laptop systems. This role involves installing, modifying, and repairing hardware and software under close supervision, while maintaining effective communication with end-users throughout the lifecycle of their service requests. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IT support, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Tier 1 support and Tier 2 support as needed
  • Respond to user requests and resolve routine technical issues related to information and voice systems
  • Document user interactions and update status in the Help Desk application
  • Maintain effective communication with end-users regarding issue resolution
  • Install and configure software, hardware, and peripheral components
  • Create installation packages for quick deployment of applications
  • Maintain inventory of desktop hardware and peripherals
  • Assist with installation and configuration of telecommunications and server hardware
  • Monitor and resolve entry-level systems, network, and security issues
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and remedial actions
  • Write clear procedural documentation and provide basic user training
  • Relocate technical equipment as needed
  • Participate in special assignments as directed by supervisor
Basic / Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Must obtain the following certifications within the specified time frame:
    • CompTIA A+ within 6 months
    • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) within 12 months
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training or certifications in:
    • CompTIA Network+
    • Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)
    • Help Desk Institute (HDI)
Work Conditions
  • Office-based with up to 30% travel by land or air
  • Exposure to petroleum refinery environments including chemicals, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, and confined spaces
  • May require long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays for maintenance and emergency support
  • Subject to varying weather and road conditions
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, twist, stoop, crouch, kneel, lift/carry up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 50 lbs, and climb up to 15 ft
  • Must be able to operate and drive company vehicles at standard insurance rates
  • Valid state driver's license and proof of insurance required
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and respirator (beards not permitted)
  • Must be able to perceive color differences and perform precise hand/finger movements
