About The Role As our
Head of Engineering , you will own the technical vision, strategy, and execution for the company at a pivotal growth point. You will lead and scale the engineering organization, shape the architecture underpinning our products, and ensure our systems and people are positioned to fuel The Information’s next phase of growth.
You’ll be a hands-on leader who sets the bar for technical excellence, cultivates top-tier engineering talent, and partners across the company to build products that delight our readers and strengthen our business.

What You'll Do
Set the Technical Vision: Define and communicate a long-term architectural strategy that aligns with business priorities and positions the company for scale and innovation.
Lead and Grow the Engineering Team: Manage, mentor, and inspire engineers and engineering managers. Build a high-performing, inclusive culture rooted in accountability, technical rigor, and collaboration.
Drive Technical Excellence: Oversee system design, code quality, infrastructure, and technical operations. Establish best practices and ensure the team delivers secure, reliable, and scalable systems.
Be Hands-On: While primarily a leader, you’ll remain technically engaged—able to review designs, dive into code when needed, and act as a credible technical authority across the organization.
Partner Across the Business: Collaborate with product, design, and business leadership to translate company goals into clear technical roadmaps and deliverables.
Scale with the Company: Build organizational processes that enable the team to execute efficiently while balancing speed with quality. Anticipate growth needs and design for them.
Champion Culture: Create an environment of trust, continuous learning, and innovation. Ensure engineers are empowered, supported, and excited to do their best work.
Qualifications
8+ years of software engineering experience, with experience leading and scaling engineering teams at the senior management level.
Demonstrated success owning technical strategy, organizational design, and large-scale system architecture.
Deep expertise with modern development practices, infrastructure, and architectural patterns; able to weigh trade-offs and guide the right decisions.
A proven track record of attracting, mentoring, and retaining top engineering talent.
Strong product mindset—you thrive in cross-functional environments and can balance technical priorities with business goals.
Excellent communicator who can inspire engineers while building trust with executives and stakeholders.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, driving clarity and alignment across multiple priorities.
Work Authorization Requirement: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.
Bonus Qualifications
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
Familiarity with our tech stack (Ruby on Rails, Python, React, PostgreSQL)
Experience with data pipelines and warehousing

Salary range:
$200,000 - $250,000 USD annually + Bonus + Benefits
