Director of Quality & Food Safety
Job Summary: The Director of Quality & Food Safety leads the development and oversight of food safety, microbiological, and quality systems across the organization. This role uses advanced scientific methods—such as microbial modeling, risk assessment, and data analysis—to ensure public health protection, regulatory compliance, and customer safety. The ideal candidate is an expert in food safety, food microbiology, predictive modeling (e.g., ComBase), and preventive controls. THIS ROLE IS LOCATED IN ILLINOIS AND WILL REQUIRE RELOCATION Responsibilities
Independently identify food safety risks to the business and proactively define risk reduction strategies. Conduct annual HACCP/FSMA reassessments with local teams of selected locations. Review the application of challenge studies, shelf-life studies and process control validation studies to ensure critical limits for critical processes are appropriate. Manage a team, with authority to hire and performance-manage the team. Leads/supervises/manages 1-5 employees. Conduct validation of processes related to lethal/kill steps including thermal, chilling, formulation, or novel technologies for products and/or processes. Assess validity of current lethality processes to ensure critical limits are consistently met. Define requirements for consistency in HACCP and food safety plan decision-making. Conduct scientific risk assessments using quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate biological, chemical and physical hazards in ingredients, processes, and finished products. Qualifications
5-10 years of experience in related field. 3-5 years of progressive experience in food safety, microbiology, and regulatory compliance, including 3+ years in a leadership role within the manufacturing environment. Expert knowledge of FDA, USDA, FSMA, FSMA for animal feed, HACCP, GMPs, and GFSI frameworks. PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) and HACCP certification required. Seniority level
