Job Summary

The UCSF AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) is the only wet laboratory/biospecimen repository component of the UCSF Hematology-Oncology Division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), a division of the Department of Medicine. The UCSF AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) Regional Biospecimen Repository (RBR) was established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to encourage and facilitate research on HIV and associated diseases in persons living with HIV (PLWH). It is the country\'s leading resource for well annotated tissue and biological human samples to support investigators conducting HIV-related research including cancer, virology, immunology, pathology, epidemiology, tumor biology, and assay development. The UCSF-ACSR RBR is a repository for human materials from a wide spectrum of diseases, and conditions in PLWH, including cancer. In addition to operating a large biospecimen repository, the ACSR, upon request, will search for and acquire specimens not currently in its inventory to meet the needs of approved investigations. In addition to UCSF, ACSR sites include George Washington University, Moffitt Cancer Center, University of Arizona, Stellenbosch University, and the University of So Paulo.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Lab Manager and Senior Staff Research Associate, maintain and manage inventory of specimens/collections housed in the UCSF RBR including specimens stored at room and ultralow temperature conditions. Enter specimen and patient-related data into established ACSR databases; maintain accurate specimen inventory and mapping during re-inventory processes; keep electronic records up to date for inventory- and annotation-files and databases. Receive, handle, process, store, and maintain inventory for biological specimens from special specimen collections donated to the ACSR. Handle ultra-low temperature specimens and equipment. Experience with biobanking/biorepository related databases; REDCap and Freezerworks LIMS is desirable. Work with the RBR Principal Investigator to fulfill specimen requests made to the ACSR by investigators worldwide. Interface with the ZSFG Pathology Department and collaborating clinicians related to prospective sample collection; gather relevant clinical data on acquired specimens. Enter, maintain and search specimen data in the UCSF ACSR\'s REDCap database and Freezerworks LIMS; respond to freezer alerts as appropriate; assist with special projects; attend weekly lab meetings; perform other duties as assigned. Travel to different worksite/facilities and handle freezer racks of up to 40-50 pounds.

Salary and Benefits

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including work experience and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
