The MCF (Mission Critical Facilities) Mechanical Senior Project Engineer guides the technical design of data center projects as subject matter expert, mentor, and resource to the technical team. The position delegates, leads, and directs work of Project Engineers and Designers. The role conceptualizes, executes, and ensures quality throughout the design process to meet clients’ needs and expectations. The Senior Project Engineer will also have supervision and mentorship responsibilities for junior staff and will be a resource to other project engineers. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who enjoy technically challenging projects that require cutting edge designs. Aside from the preferred locations listed, this position is open to any location with a Stantec office presence for the right candidate. Responsibilities
Assist the business development team in new project pursuits by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participate in project interviews and presentations. Manage technical project process and scope within own discipline; review and track scope, schedule, and budgeted hours; resolve inconsistencies with the project manager. Delegate tasks to project engineers and designers within own discipline as appropriate. Follow quality management process; conduct project reviews and approvals before QA/QC reviews conducted by the technical authority. Build and maintain strong client relations; understand and articulate project and design requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff. Lead technical discussions and mechanical workgroups with project stakeholders; identify key requirements and adapt design to meet project objectives. Coordinate with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design. Act as supervisor and resource to the technical design team; support staff education, training, and development. Participate in the data center engineering/professional community to stay current with new requirements and technologies; contribute to professional growth (attend meetings, seminars, conferences, or write articles). Identify opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables across Stantec MCF locations. Contribute to development of design guides, technical memos, calculation templates, and other materials related to data center design. Your Capabilities and Credentials
Extensive experience in mission critical/data center design concepts. Experience working on large-scale projects with varied stakeholders. Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, principles, codes, and standards in own discipline; basic knowledge of other disciplines. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conceptualize and develop solutions for complex systems. Strong communication skills to convey scope, schedule, and budget to clients and teams. Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Proficient in applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, Trace 700). Working knowledge or proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (Pipe-Flo) and CFD software (Fluent, 6Sigma) preferred. Knowledge of the construction process and its interaction with design. Organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and collaborative; able to independently resolve complex problems. Education and Experience
Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum 10 years related industry experience preferred. Mission critical / data center experience required. Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other professional certification as required by expertise. About Stantec
