The Division of University Relations (UR) builds public awareness, understanding and support for the university's mission and goals. The division includes the marketing, communications, and public affairs units and embraces an integrated approach to executing best-in-class work that achieves strategic outcomes. UR elevates awareness and support of DU’s brand, strengthens relationships with key constituencies, and advances the university's strategic interests through data-driven and authentic strategies across multiple channels. Through our “Lead and Empower” focus, UR provides the campus community with leadership, partnership, strategy, tools and support to advance successful, on-brand marketing communications and public affairs strategies that help achieve the University’s goals. Editorial Creator
will serve as a lead contributor to the university’s magazine and newsroom, focusing on generating impactful stories, features and editorial content. Approximately 70% of the role involves researching, writing and editing for print and digital publications, and developing engaging multimedia content. About 10% of time will be editorial support for podcast initiatives and project management, and 20% supporting experience management (XM) activities, connecting experience data to narratives for magazine, newsroom and podcast audiences. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor with a passion for storytelling in a journalistic context, capable of managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment while collaborating with diverse university stakeholders. Essential Functions Editorial & Newsroom Writing: Drive the creation of feature stories, news articles, and campus profiles for print and digital outlets. Editorial collaboration: Engage with faculty, staff and students to uncover and shape narratives that represent diverse voices. Content Development Collaborate on executive communications to shape remarks, talking points and messaging reflecting editorial discoveries. Create engaging photo and video content to enhance storytelling. Experience Management (XM) Integration Connect insights from collected experience data with editorial planning to reflect voices and experiences of the university community. Collaborate with XM stakeholders to interpret results and translate findings into content themes and story opportunities. Podcast and Project Management Coordinate project timelines, approvals and deliverables for editorial and media initiatives. Monitor metrics and use insights to inform future storytelling. Maintain organized archives of published stories. Oversee podcast student contributors and support podcast production efforts. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills. Familiarity with AP style and editorial best practices. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. 1 year experience. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations. Familiarity with experience management. Basic knowledge of SEO and digital publishing practices. Comfort with interviewing and sourcing stories from diverse stakeholders. Working Environment
Standard office environment. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high. Noise level is quiet to moderate. Physical Activities
Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus. Work Schedule
