Position Nonprofit Director of Donor Relations

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Our client, a Houston nonprofit organization in support of children and their families, is seeking a Director of Donor relations. This Director will work directly with the Sr. VP of Advancement in developing and executing the organization’s individual mid-level program, major gifts program and planned giving initiatives.

POSITION SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Works with the Sr. VP of Advancement to devise, implement and manage effective, creative, and original resource development strategies as part of the Advancement team to achieve short-range and long-range goals of the department.

Works closely with the Director of Donor and Community Engagement to coordinate the flow of mid and major level donor prospects identified through the acquisition process to the mid and major level donor pool.

Provides guidance and support to donor relations staff in policy adherence, caseload assignments, annual caseload goals, creation of donor offers, donor visits and data management.

Creates and implements strategies related to the identification, qualification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors to achieve the financial goals established for the department.

Assures there is integration and collaboration between mid and major donor relations staff, ensuring the flow of donors through the pipeline.

Works with the Sr. VP of Advancement to set overall annual caseload base revenue goals. Works closely with donor relations staff and shares organization priorities in advance of goal setting. Monitor the progress of donor relations staff against set goals.

Assists in the packaging of program information, donor offers and acknowledgements. Reviews proposals and written material. Works with program staff and finance to secure accurate information.

Assures the database is being used by donor relations staff to record donor touchpoints and information.

Actively manages an assigned portfolio of donors based on strategic priorities identified by the Sr. VP of Advancement.

Cultivates donor relations by thanking, updating, stewarding, and asking donors to deepen their financial partnership with the organization.

Provides required monthly reports that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance.

Accompanies board members, volunteers, CEO and Sr. VP of Advancement as needed in support of visits with current and prospective major donors.

Represents the organization in community events relevant to the promotion and support of the organization’s programs and projects.

Performs public speaking to promote awareness and support of the organization’s programs and leads tours for individual prospects and/or interested groups.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

Minimum of 5 years related work in fundraising

Proven ability to build relationships with supporters

Ability to perform effectively in public speaking and presenting to groups

Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification is a plus
