Job Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems for the U.S. subsidiary and its consolidated entities. This role maximizes the return on financial assets through sound financial management while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate standards. The Manager collaborates closely with executive leadership to drive financial performance, optimize profitability, and ensure accurate financial reporting-particularly in a multi-location business environment.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Financial Accounting & Reporting Record all company transactions and maintain the general ledger and related accounts for all business units, including subsidiaries. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow). Reconcile account balances, investigate and resolve discrepancies and anomalies. Prepare consolidated financial reports and monthly reporting packages for the Japan HQ and U.S. auditors. Perform bank reconciliations, wire transfers, and monthly adjustments for specific current assets and liabilities. Review bi-weekly and weekly payroll processing for accuracy. Continuously update knowledge on accounting standards and best practices. 2.
Cash Flow & Cost Control Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management. Manage inventory valuation and cost control for food, labor, and operational expenses. Collaborate with operations to improve cost efficiency and profit margins. 3.
Budgeting & Financial Analysis Support the development, management, and monitoring of annual budgets and financial forecasts for restaurant locations. Develop schedules for collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data to support budgeting decisions. 4.
Tax Compliance Ensure timely and accurate preparation, review, and submission of federal and state tax filings. Coordinate with external CPAs and tax advisors on corporate income tax, sales tax, property tax, payroll tax, and business license tax. 5.
Internal Controls & Audit Oversee internal and external audits and implement corrective actions as necessary. Apply best practices in accounting operations to enhance risk management and operational efficiency. 6.
Systems & Process Improvement Lead implementation and optimization of financial systems such as ERP (e.g., Restaurant365) and POS (e.g., Toast). Promote automation of core accounting processes including reporting, payroll, and A/P & A/R management. Take ownership of proposing and executing process improvement initiatives. 7.
Team Management & Collaboration Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor accounting and finance staff. Manage team schedules, workload allocation, and monitor performance. Build and maintain relationships with external financial institutions, auditors, and advisors. Additional Responsibilities

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar accounting or controller role, preferably in a multi-location restaurant or retail business. Technical Skills Proficient in accounting, auditing, corporate finance, budgeting, and financial analysis. Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills; experience with ERP systems (Restaurant365), POS systems (Toast), and payroll platforms. Bilingual communication skills (Japanese/English) Soft Skills High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent time management and multitasking abilities. Integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in handling sensitive data. Work Conditions
Work Environment : Office setting with moderate noise level. Travel : Not required. Supervision : Responsible for managing the Accounting team.
