Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Accounting Manager
who will primarily oversee the company's financial and accounting operations, representing approximately
80% of the role . In addition, this individual will handle light
HR and administrative duties (approx. 20%) , functioning as an
Office Manager
within our small, collaborative office in San Jose. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and flexible, with strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to support general office operations.
Key Responsibilities (80% - Accounting & Finance)
Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, loan reports) and submit to headquarters Supervise billing, AR/AP, and data entry staff; ensure proper accounting treatment and accuracy Maintain internal controls for accounting processes, cash management, and financial reporting in line with U.S. GAAP Manage day-to-day cash flow, including loans, lines of credit, vendor payments, and intercompany transactions Maintain and manage the chart of accounts, fixed asset records, and liabilities Provide financial data for external tax filings and collaborate with CPA firms and auditors during annual audits Prepare tax-related documentation (sales/use tax, property tax, etc.) and support HQ reporting and consolidation Serve as the primary liaison with external banks, insurance brokers, and accounting firms Additional Responsibilities (20% - HR & General Affairs)
Administer employee benefits (health insurance, 401(k)), ensuring compliance with relevant labor and HIPAA regulations Maintain employee records and PTO balances (vacation, sick leave, holidays) Coordinate with external payroll provider; review payroll changes, deductions, and garnishments Monitor updates to employment laws and assist with revisions to the Employee Handbook Handle basic office operations, including supply management, vendor communications, and business travel arrangements Ideal Candidate Profile
5-8 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized company Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial operations Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Excel Bilingual proficiency in
Japanese and English
(required) CPA certification is a strong plus but not required Flexible and self-motivated, with the ability to multitask in a small team environment Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
