Job Summary
As an Engineer you require an experienced professional with strong background in environmental and solid waste treatment. The ideal candidate will possess superior problem-solving and management skills, applying them to a diverse portfolio of technical projects. This role involves direct responsibility for engineering and construction at solid waste disposal facilities, communication with senior management, and mentorship of junior staff. Engage, direct, and manage professional consulting firms responsible for various tasks at solid waste facilities, including permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submissions. The candidate will be responsible for the final deliverables. Maintain strong relationships with regulators, serving as the primary technical and permitting liaison between regulatory agencies and operating sites. Responsibilities include representing us in permit meetings, hearings, and site inspections and acting as a community liaison at technical conferences and industry forums. Oversee landfill construction projects from design to final approval, including consultant and contractor management, budget oversight, bid preparation, contract administration, and coordination of construction quality assurance firms and material procurement. Manage and track capital budgets for engineering and construction projects, reporting to local management and corporate leadership using company procedures. Coordinate landfill capacity tracking to optimize assets, including airspace calculations, capacity projections, and fill sequencing plans for cell construction and closure schedules. Conduct regular site evaluations to ensure compliance with construction and permit documentation, identifying expansion opportunities through proactive permitting strategies. Collaborate with subject matter experts within department to develop cost-effective engineering solutions for operational, environmental, and compliance challenges at landfills, transfer stations, hauling operations, and other facilities. Provide technical expertise to management and departments such as finance, legal, and safety to ensure strategic solutions. Support acquisition reviews and divestiture evaluations, including proforma modeling and due diligence coordination with corporate and executive management. Mentor and train technical staff, fostering professional growth and expertise within the team. Qualifications
Education and Experience : Education: Bachelor's degree (accredited) in Engineering. Preferred specializations include Civil, Chemical, and Environmental Engineering. Experience: Minimum five years of relevant experience in construction and landfill operations (in addition to educational requirements). Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software. Willingness to travel up to 50%, including to remote locations. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally with diverse audiences. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, including solid waste, air, stormwater, and wastewater compliance. Expertise in landfill design and permitting. Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously. bility to work independently and collaboratively in team environments.
