Overview

The GMS Application Engineer supports the Market Management Systems (MMS) application portfolio, including modules such as Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED), Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC), Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR), and QSE Training Simulator. This role involves designing, developing, testing, validating, and implementing modifications and enhancements to MMS applications. The position reports to the Supervisor/Manager of Grid & Market Solutions (GMS) Applications Engineering - Markets. Responsibilities

Apply professional engineering principles within Client environment and culture. Provide support, troubleshooting, and enhancements for MMS applications as part of the 24/7 on-call Market Applications Engineering support team. Coordinate application setup and testing with Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSEs), Load Serving Entities (LSEs), and Reliability Entities (REs). Perform regular MMS model load testing and update real-time model data. Design and test MMS interfaces and web/client-server application changes. Support MMS during system failovers, upgrades, patching, disaster recovery drills, and business continuity procedures. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair MMS applications and interfaces, escalating issues when necessary. Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and analysts. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on MMS-related projects and initiatives. Participate in multifunctional teams and stakeholder meetings to provide application support and gather input. Experience Levels

Level 3+: Independent work on assignments, mentoring others, assisting in process improvements, participating in multi-team studies, and supporting system reliability enhancements. Senior Level+: Serve as technical SME and lead for MMS projects, manage complex application issues, collaborate with database and infrastructure teams, coordinate non-functional testing, and guide teammates. Preferred Experience

Familiarity with Hitachi ABB or other MMS vendor applications. Experience with Data Historians (e.g., OSIsoft PI). Programming experience in FORTRAN, C, C++, Java, Perl. Experience with PL/SQL. Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of related work experience beyond degree requirements. Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (required). Masters degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
