Overview Interim Program Director (RN) of Behavioral Health – Northport, Alabama. Relocation assistance is available. The position supports inpatient psychiatric units (54-bed Adult & Gero Psych Unit) at Northpoint Medical Center, Northport, AL. The Interim Program Director is responsible for maintaining Horizon Health/client hospital contractual relationships and, in coordination with the client, the overall administration of patient care for the Program. Hours may vary as the program operates 24/7. This role includes supervising Horizon-employed clinical and administrative staff and advising client staff on the behavioral health program. This is an interim position until a full-time Program Director is hired; may involve exposure to potentially violent behavior as part of daily duties.

Performs as liaison between Program, Hospital and Horizon; communicates information and needs appropriately

Supports Hospital and Horizon missions, goals and objectives

Provides leadership and direction in accordance with Hospital guidelines

Provides clinical supervision for Program nursing, counseling, patient support and administrative staff

Develops, with the assigned VP, Clinical Practice, and updates all program policies and procedures

Ensures the program meets and maintains all federal, state, local and accrediting bodies’ regulations and standards

Develops a 24-hour call process to handle emergency situations

Defines the philosophy, goals and objectives of the treatment program with hospital administration, Horizon’s staff, and the Medical Director

Works with divisional and national support staff to maximize value from Horizon services

Manages client hospital expectations and meets them where possible

Directs departmental staff involved in multidisciplinary teams to address process improvements

Promotes professional interaction with client hospital leadership, peers and staff

Collaborates with medical and clinical staff to coordinate medical and psychosocial treatment plans

Assesses patient needs and supervises patient care; ensures accurate reporting and recording of patient symptoms, reactions, and progress

Develops processes to audit and coordinate ongoing staff education on documentation

Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality

Recommends staffing to meet patient care needs per regulatory requirements

Operates within ethical standards and reviews Horizon and Hospital policies with staff

Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and measuring outcomes against goals and standards

Assists in seclusion or restraints as needed, noting exceptions when not applicable

Maintains continuity by documenting actions and needs to Hospital, VPO and VP, Clinical Practice

Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety standards

Completes staff competencies and maintains equipment through preventive maintenance and evaluations

Provides feedback to supervisor on concerns, improvements, and changes

Ensures employee folders comply with requirements

Serves on committees and attends required meetings

Recruits, interviews and selects qualified staff; supports professional development

Monitors performance and conducts regular evaluations

Develops and submits annual Quality Improvement Plan; includes clinical issues and audit findings

Counsels and, if needed, disciplines staff

Collaborates with Medical Director on program milieu

Leads referral development to maintain appropriate census and productivity

Manages program budget and adheres to contractual and Horizon requirements

Maintains knowledge of client contractual goals and communicates progress

Implements quality improvement goals and provides client feedback

Prepares reports and completes required follow-up per Horizon guidelines

Completes operational documentation (census, PIORS) as required

Ensures marketing reports are accurate and timely; uses Horizon Plus properly

Collaborates on marketing research and program design; develops proposals for specialty programs

Collects data to improve quality and productivity

Follows CQI procedures where applicable

Other duties as assigned (up to 25% as needed)

Job Requirements

Active RN license in the state of Alabama

Graduate degree

License/certification (CPR)

Minimum five years’ experience preferred with relevant education
