Technical Project Manager I - CoMET
to join our Consultants team in
Austin, TX . The Technical Project Manager I - CoMETs primary responsibility is to manage construction materials testing (CoMET) projects and solve construction related issues in a timely and accurate manner within the specified budget. This includes coordinating field observations; classification and characterization of construction materials physical properties; assignment of laboratory and field tests; interpretation of engineering data; performing engineering calculations; preparation of engineering reports; and peer review of field and test reports under the direction of a licensed professional engineer. Additional responsibilities include efficient use of company resources, preparation of forensic, engineering and test reports, managing assigned personnel, and training and monitoring construction materials technicians in the laboratory and field. Responsibilities Serve as Project Manager, Construction Materials Engineering on CoMET projects from start to finish. Complete projects and reports in a timely and accurate manner within the specified budget. Provide mentorship and professional development to other professional, technical, clerical and support staff members. Perform CoMET consulting activities on company projects, collaborating with staff in the designated office and other offices. Coordinate materials testing activities with subcontractors and field staff. Prepare laboratory-testing assignments on projects in accordance with the testing program. Analyze field data and laboratory test results, perform engineering calculations, and provide opinions/recommendations for client reports under the direction of a licensed professional engineer. Submit draft materials testing and engineering reports for review and final reports for co-signature of assigned staff members. Perform field observation services in support of CoMET activities and construction engineering investigations. Support the expansion of the scope and technological level of excellence in our engineering, environmental and construction materials services. Adhere to and support the Raba Kistner Safety program. Complete required training programs to familiarize with field and laboratory operations, as needed. Participate in growth efforts by establishing and managing client relationships and involving other technical staff in the division's growth; coordinate relationship management activities and project pursuits with Business Development professionals. Serve as a representative with clients and professional organizations; prepare proposals as assigned. Engage in professional organizations as directed and review/approve pre-bill invoices on CoMET projects. Contact and follow up with clients on invoicing and payment status. Within the first six months, achieve an average chargeability goal of at least 65 percent. Notify supervisors of potential disputes that may lead to legal claims, and support dispute resolution as requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Science or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program. EIT certification preferred; highly encouraged to be obtained within 12 months of hire. Valid drivers license and eligibility for company auto insurability requirements. Additional capabilities include project management skills to manage all aspects of projects, knowledge of testing procedures used in geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratories (e.g., ASTM, TxDOT, AASHTO, USACE), understanding of construction plans and specifications, drafting of technical reports and proposals, and ability to supervise technicians with varying levels of experience. The role may require driving and occasional travel; strong communication and client-facing skills are essential. The work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor conditions, and other typical field/lab settings. Reasonable accommodations may be provided as needed.
