About the Role We are looking for a System Architect for a major automotive OEM to lead the definition and design of complex automotive systems for next-generation Software Defined Vehicles (SDV). This role will focus on ensuring robust, scalable, and interoperable system architectures across multiple domains, bridging hardware, software, and E/E platforms. You will provide technical leadership, align stakeholders, and ensure architectural integrity from concept to delivery. Location: Detroit, Michigan (USA) Contract type: Full-time OR Contractor (freelancers accepted) Benefits: Competitive rate; opportunity to shape the architecture of future SDVs; collaboration with international and cross-functional teams Responsibilities Define and maintain the overall system architecture in alignment with vehicle E/E architecture and business requirements Drive model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices (SysML/UML, Rhapsody, Cameo, or equivalent) Ensure traceability from requirements through to design, implementation, and validation Lead system trade-off analyses and support technical decision-making across domains Collaborate with software architects, hardware teams, and platform engineers to secure end-to-end consistency Support safety- and security-related requirements (ISO 26262, ASPICE, ISO/SAE 21434) Provide guidance on system integration strategies, diagnostics, and interoperability across domains (ADAS, infotainment, connectivity, powertrain) Conduct and lead cross-functional technical reviews with stakeholders Mentor engineering teams and enforce architectural governance and best practices Qualifications Bachelors or Masters degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field 8+ years of experience in system architecture within automotive, aerospace, or other safety-critical industries Strong knowledge of MBSE methodologies and tools (DOORS, Polarion, Rhapsody, Cameo, Enterprise Architect) Experience with automotive E/E architectures and in-vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, TCP/IP) Familiarity with safety and cybersecurity standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE, ISO 21434) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to drive trade-off decisions Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; proven ability to work across global teams Desired: experience on large-scale platform programs (e.g., cockpit, ADAS, SDV platforms) Next Steps Click Apply We will review your application.
