Stantec is seeking a senior structural engineer specializing in marine and waterfront design to support our transportation practice in New England. The selected candidate will manage and technically lead teams in the design and construction administration of complex waterfront projects for public and private sector clients in the region. This position is flexible between our Burlington, MA office and remote work. The Burlington office offers amenities such as an on-site fitness center, walking paths, bicycle storage, indoor and outdoor courts, golf simulator, café, and EV charging stations. Other regional offices include Boston, MA and Auburn, NH. Stantec values a hybrid work environment with in-person collaboration and remote flexibility. As a people leader you will be expected to be in the office, on average, three days a week. Your Key Responsibilities
Performs marine and waterfront engineering assignments that require sound application of technical codes, standards, and guidelines. Performs and oversees engineering planning and design at key project stages. Oversees technical work, provides guidance, and mentors entry- and intermediate-level engineers. Analyzes complex problems, modifies methods and processes, and proposes new solutions. Leads preparation and coordination of project deliverables including contract documents. Responsible for review and sealing of contract deliverables. Performs independent technical and quality reviews. Uses initiative and judgment to adapt procedures for unusual situations and to resolve issues. Ensures engineering procedures and guidelines are applied consistently with a focus on continuous improvement. Executes safe work practices in field and office work. Coordinates with clients, agencies, and others to determine project requirements and approvals. Responsible for invoicing, managing, and monitoring financial performance of project budgets using PM dashboard access. May write and negotiate proposals as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agencies. Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong technical and functional expertise for the role. Experience in staff supervision and leadership; direct management experience is required. Strong collaboration, facilitation, and teamwork skills. Excellent communication and presentation abilities. Ability to travel frequently within New England; estimated travel 25%. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in one New England state with ability to obtain licensure in others within 6 months as needed. Experience with engineering design tools such as MathCAD, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, Microsoft Project, and structural software (CSiBridge, Shoring Suite, Optimoor). Prior experience with US Federal agency engineering and construction projects (NAVFAC, USACE, AFCEE, etc.) or similar port and marine transportation entities is a plus. Education and Experience
Minimum of fifteen years of relevant marine and waterfront structures experience. Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited university; advanced degree preferred.
