Stantec, a global leader in design of waterfront infrastructure and other large-scale, heavy civil works facilities, is currently seeking a Senior Structural/Waterfront Engineer for our New England Transportation operations dedicated to marine and waterfront infrastructure projects. Our multidisciplinary team specializes in the planning and design of waterfront projects, including dry docks, bulkheads and seawalls, piers and wharves, movable transfer bridges and ferry terminals. The maritime industry is expanding and improving port and harbor infrastructure. Join our Ports and Marine team to navigate these waters together and find solutions for our clients. Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a highly qualified senior structural engineer specializing in marine and waterfront design to support our transportation practice in New England. The selected candidate must be able to manage and technically lead teams in the design and construction administration of complex waterfront projects for public and private sector clients throughout the region. This position is flexible between our Burlington MA office and remote work. Our Burlington MA office at Blue Sky Center offers amenities including an on-site fitness center, walking paths, secure bicycle storage, indoor and outdoor courts and games, golf simulator, café, and EV charging stations. The office is near the Burlington Mall and Routes 3, 62 and 128 with ample on-site parking and nearby lunch options. Other regional office locations include Boston MA and Auburn, NH. We value a hybrid work environment that combines in-person collaboration with remote flexibility. As a people leader you will be expected to be in the office, on average, three days a week. Responsibilities
Performs marine and waterfront engineering assignments that are broad and varied in nature, requiring sound application of technical codes, standards, and guidelines. Performs and oversees engineering planning and design assignments at key stages of projects Oversees the technical work, provides technical guidance, and mentoring of entry- and intermediate-level engineers Analyzes complex problems, modifies methods, procedures, processes and proposes new alternative solutions Leads the preparation and coordination of project deliverables including contract documents Responsible for the review and sealing of contract deliverables Performs independent technical and quality reviews Exercises initiative and independent judgment in adapting and applying procedures to address unusual situations and to resolve issues Ensures Stantec’s engineering and design procedures and guidelines are consistently and correctly applied on projects, with an eye toward continuous improvement Consistently executes safe work practices and work plans while completing field and office work Coordinates with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals Responsible for invoicing, managing, and monitoring financial performance of project budgets using PM dashboard access May write and negotiate proposals as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agencies Capabilities, Qualifications & Experience
Highly skilled in technical and functional aspects of the role. Proven ability in staff supervision and leadership; experience directly managing others is required. Demonstrates strong collaboration, facilitation, and teamwork skills. Possesses strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to travel frequently within the New England area as required. Estimated travel: 25% Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in one New England state with ability to obtain licensure in other states within 6 months of employment as needed Experience with engineering design tools such as MathCAD, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, Microsoft Project, and structural software such as CSiBridge, Shoring Suite, and Optimoor. Prior experience with US Federal agency engineering and construction projects (NAVFAC, USACE, AFCEE, etc.), or similar port and marine transportation entities is a plus. Education & Experience
Minimum of fifteen years of relevant marine and waterfront structures experience. Requires Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited university; advanced degree preferred.
