Act as Technical Expert for his / her products and applications. Responsible for specifications of designated products / product groups. (Glass-ceramics for high temperature applications) Technical Expert and Applications Consulting Acts as key-technical contact for customers and sales teams for OEM products, product development, or applications Evaluates customer designs and suggest improvements to design of components and assembly processes Performs mechanical, thermal, and chemical testing on glass-ceramics, including longevity and stress testing in appliances like cooktops, ovens, fireplaces, etc. Diagnoses root causes of material failures Maintains network with other experts inside and outside the company including annual travel to headquarters in Germany Product Development Leads or participates in new product development and process improvement projects for the North American market Leads projects that may be initiated as a result of customer requests, or from internal glass/coating developments Responsible for taking projects from the idea phase to technical development and to product release Participates in the process to ensure profitability and timely release of new products. Proposes solutions and works with internal and external contacts to provide cost estimations Responsible for technical negotiations of product specifications with customers observing the commercial objectives of the respective product Create IP/file patents for novel products. Perform competitive analyses/benchmarking of products and technologies Support Tasks Provides technical information for communication and training purposes and keeps them up to date Trains sales teams on new products, applications, and technologies Coordinates production of prototypes for customers and trade shows Supports Quality Department in solving internal and external complaints, establishing new testing standards Oversees or performs intermittent testing of strength and related material properties Supports the global or regional product strategy; makes suggestions for annual R&D planning Collaborates with other functions to ensure contract requirements and standards are met Maintain relevant agency standards and material certifications: UL, ANSI, CSA, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Bachelor or Master in an engineering discipline or in science 1+ year(s) of occupational experience Experience in project management, engineering, sales support, product development or production support Additional Knowledge Requirements Autonomous work skills, good command of English in both oral and written communications, Team skills working with multidiscipline, cross functional environment, MS Office proficiency, experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software
