Overview

Job Title: SharePoint Administrator Location: Portsmouth, VA Summary: Trace Systems is seeking a SharePoint Administrator to support the Norfolk Naval Shipyard CIO department (Code 109). The associated network capabilities are currently supporting activities that directly contribute to Navy Fleet readiness. The NNSY CIO is responsible for the installation, administration, development, management, and/or maintenance of all networks and systems installed at NNSY and telecommunication services. The CIO provides IT approval for IT purchases for and by NNSY. This department ensures that all systems and networks operate in a secure manner by implementing and managing an Information Assurance program that meets all Navy and DoD requirements. Seniority level: Mid-Senior level Employment type: Full-time Job function: Engineering and Information Technology Industries: Defense and Space Manufacturing Responsibilities Administer and maintain Microsoft SharePoint Server environments, including site collections, web applications, service applications, and integration with enterprise systems. Perform SharePoint Server upgrades, patching, and configuration in accordance with DoD security guidelines and organizational change management practices. Monitor SharePoint system health and performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness. Support content and user management, including permissions, workflows, custom lists, libraries, and integration with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps). Manage and configure SharePoint Online sites, libraries, lists, permissions, including migration of content, workflows, and functionality from on-premises SharePoint environments to SharePoint Online. Manage and troubleshoot SharePoint services, including Search, User Profile Service, Managed Metadata, and Workflow Manager. Monitor and analyze ESXI host hardware and software resources including system logs for issues; recommend and implement solutions that correct and improve conditions and optimize efficiency of the system.

Qualifications

Active, in-scope US Government issued Top Secret clearance. Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required. Minimum of four (7) years of experience in SharePoint Server administration, with at least three (3) years of specialized experience managing, configuring, and supporting SharePoint On-Premises environments. The SharePoint Administrator shall have demonstrated experience as described below. Examples of relevant experience may include the following:

SharePoint Server Administration Configure, manage, and maintain SharePoint Server (2016/2019) environments, including: Web applications, site collections, content databases, and service applications. Manage user permissions, Active Directory group integration, and SharePoint security policies. Implement and maintain governance policies, backup and recovery plans, and disaster recovery strategies. Administer and optimize Central Administration, Search Service Application, User Profile Service, and Managed Metadata Services. Support and manage migrations between SharePoint On-Premises and SharePoint Online using tools such as: SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), ShareGate, or Metalogix.

System Maintenance & Monitoring

Perform routine system health checks, apply patches, Cumulative Updates (CUs), and Service Packs (SPs) to maintain system stability. Monitor system performance, analyze logs, and respond to system alerts or issues affecting SharePoint availability or performance. Collaborate with infrastructure teams to manage Windows Server, IIS, and SQL Server configurations related to SharePoint.

Troubleshooting and Support

Investigate and resolve SharePoint errors, performance bottlenecks, and service disruptions. Provide tier 2/3 support to end users and site owners for SharePoint issues. Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Deployment & Configuration

Deploy and configure custom or third-party SharePoint solutions, features, and web parts. Support solution lifecycle management (test, production) in coordination with developers and business units. Assist with migrations or upgrades between SharePoint versions or from older to newer environments.

Desired Qualifications

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: SharePoint Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator, and CompTIA Security+ are desired.

Education

Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering) or Level II Certification (Security+ or better) AND four (4) years of relevant experience as described above.
