Job Summary

The Instructional Assistant will work with students in the Nursing program at the Northcentral Technical Colleges School of Health Sciences. This individual will provide academic support to students by providing academic coaching, tutoring and skills unique to the Nursing program. The Nursing Instructional Assistant collaborates with Nursing Faculty, Health Resource Learning Lab staff, and the Health Division Administrative team. The Instruction Assistant is expected to be proficient in Nursing course content, attend Nursing core classes, and provide instructional support to Nursing faculty and Nursing students. Note: Scheduled hours for this position can be flexible to work around a candidate's full-time job. This position will work with the Nursing program which may require coverage on days and evenings. Essential Functions and Responsibilities The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation. Student Support: Serve as an academic coach to nursing program students

Provide group content review sessions

Create a flexible, variable Student Connect schedule in Starfish to meet the academic support needs of nursing students

Collaborate with ARC Tutors to provide academic student support activities

Proctor nursing exams and make-up activities

Prepare review materials for student learning sessions in alignment with course content, course learning objectives, and program outcomes

Provide referrals to NTC student supports such as Timberwolf Table, counseling services, Academic Advisors

Faculty Support: Facilitate classroom activity set-up, assist with procuring materials and supplies, as requested

Proctor nursing exams, make-up exams, and quizzes

Collaborate with course faculty to create innovative learning activities for use in the classroom, lab, remediation, pathways, or review sessions

Assist instructors in managing classroom activities

Assist nursing instructors with setting up and running major course activities

Assist nursing instructors by ensuring students are competent with course content and skills

Assist nursing instructors as directed by the Dean of Health Sciences and Community Services and/or the Associate Dean of Nursing, and/or the Health Education & Technology Manager

Health Student Recruitment: Collaborate with program staff to create K-12 nursing-focused learning activities

Participate in K-12 events as a spokesperson for the Nursing program, coordinating the message with Health division and program faculty and staff

Participate in student recruitment activities for the School of Health Sciences and Community Services

Health and Community Services Division Support: Cross train to provide back-up simulation center learning activities

Cross train to provide back-up for the Health Education & Technology Manager

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Education:

Associate's Degree (or Equivalent) Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Experience:

1 Year Preferred: 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in a bedside RN role

Preferred: Previous instructional or tutoring experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including language skills, reasoning and mathematical abilities are essential. Language Skills: Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, reports and emails; speak and may present information to groups. Math Skills: Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent. Reasoning Ability: Ability to critically think and solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; interpret written, oral and diagrammed instructions. Technical Skills: Ability to manage and track document changes; create, modify and format templates and files; ability to use multiple computer screens and multitask in several computer applications. Customer Service Skills: Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary. Active, unencumbered Wisconsin RN license Instructional Assistant staff must be current and competent in the following: The principles of the nursing scope of practice
