General Description The City of Madison is looking for helpful and courteous individuals to perform routine work in the calculation and collection of parking fees from patrons using cashier-operated municipal parking garages. The work also involves assisting patrons, explaining parking procedures, making minor repairs to equipment and the work area, and performing basic recordkeeping. The work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Parking Operations Supervisors and the direction of Parking Operations Leadworkers, and is reviewed periodically to ensure conformance to operating policies and procedures.

This posting will be used to fill hourly vacancies within the next 6 months.

VACANCIES: There are currently five (5) vacancies. HOURS:

Approximately 0-20 hours per week. Most hours will be night and weekend hours to include work between the hours of 4:00 PM and 3:30 AM. Applicants must be available to work weekend hours and between the hours of 4:00 PM and 3:30 AM. Limited daytime shifts may be available, mostly on Saturdays and Sundays.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

Calculation and Collection of Parking Fees:

Calculate parking fees by using a fee computer or by manually calculating the fee, upon exit or entrance to a parking facility. Collect fees from patrons and make change accurately. Deposit money in a safe, recording deposit information accurately. Ensure safety of work area, cashiers and cash by following prescribed safety rules and regulations. Issue Failure to Pay ticket in lieu of payment. Set up and remove barricades and signs as needed for pay-on-entry operation, direct traffic as required. Assist Patrons:

Explain parking procedures and rates; give directions and answer questions. Resolve complaints for the patron or direct them elsewhere for assistance. Notify the supervisor of patron complaints or situations which may lead to patron inconvenience or danger. Notify Madison Police Department when patrons need assistance or when vandalism, unlawful or suspicious activities need to be investigated. Hand out informational flyers, maps or questionnaires. Maintain and secure work area:

Make minor repairs to computers and cashier station equipment used at the work site. Report vandalism or equipment needing major repairs to the leadworker or supervisor. Clean work areas using the cleaning schedule as the minimum standard. Order supplies; keep supplies properly stocked, filled out, and ready to use. Keep drive lanes and walking areas close to the assigned work area clear of snow, ice, safety hazards, litter and dirt. Report items that cannot be handled by a cashier. Keep all equipment, booths, safes, offices, and restrooms secure at all times. Perform miscellaneous duties as needed or scheduled:

Enforce Parking Regulations. Assist in the training of new cashiers. Provide breaks for other employees. Perform related work as required. Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months of cash handling experience. Based on the number of applications received, random selection may be used to determine who will be invited to interview. Special Requirements

Ability to meet transportation requirements of the position. Physical Requirements:

Employee will be expected to work in adverse conditions such as a small work area, variable temperatures and weather, heavy traffic area, etc. Employee must be able to get in and out of booths and/or vehicles. Employee will be expected to reach, bend, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, move quickly to open and/or repair gate and station problems; issue tickets and assist patrons. Ability to push/pull/lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
