Description

This is a highly skilled position that performs technical diagnostics and repairs on transit vehicles with internal combustion engines. Duties are performed under the general direction of a fleet mechanic supervisor and are evaluated through periodic inspections of work performed, evaluating accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of tasks completed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees, performs, and may coordinate the installation, repair, or replacement of vehicle systems and engine components.

Maintains records of duties performed and equipment used.

Performs all mechanical duties on transit vehicles and related equipment.

Be prepared to perform all work related to a heavy industrial automotive shop.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Education and Experience

Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and two years of mechanical experience, such as maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment and vehicles, heavy industrial automotive vehicles, and performing in-depth mechanical repairs to heavy vehicles or closely related experience.

Experience in utilizing diagnostic software programs and equipment for Chevrolet, Ford, Cummins or Allison preferred.

License

Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Possession of a valid Class A or B CDL with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement OR a valid Class A or B CDL Permit with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement prior to offer.

Must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 30 days of hire date. (Training and testing provided by LeeTran staff.)

Safety-Sensitive Position

Transit fleet mechanics are a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR-parts 40 and /or 655.

Supplemental Information

Florida F.A.C. 14.90 requires technicians to have one year of documented training on preventative maintenance in order to be able to perform vehicle safety inspections.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are preferred.

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, practices, and methods used in the repair of over-the-road vehicles.

Ability and willingness to assist in the training and guidance of entry-level technicians.

Must be able to drive in all weather conditions and at night.

Operating schedule:

LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. The workdays and hours are four (4) 10-hour shifts per week, 4:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Shifts and assignments: Hours are subject to change. Shift schedules are selected based on seniority.

Shift differential: Evening shifts offer additional compensation through shift differential.
