Our client is a private equity-backed building materials and services company serving contractors, municipalities, and commercial customers across Texas. Operating across multiple sites with a fast-growing team of 500+, the company is committed to sustainability, operational excellence, and scaling responsibly. As the organization grows, it seeks a dynamic and highly capable Corporate Controller to lead the accounting function and partner closely with the CFO and executive team.

The Opportunity

This is a strategic and tactical leadership role ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who can lead a team while rolling up their sleeves. The Corporate Controller will oversee the full spectrum of accounting operations, internal controls, reporting, and compliance, while also driving process improvements and supporting the companys broader financial goals. You will manage and develop a lean accounting team of 5 and play a key role in creating a world-class finance organization that supports the business through its next phase of growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including month-end close, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll, and tax compliance (e.g., sales/use, property tax).
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce strong internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare KPIs and detailed financial reports for executive leadership and private equity sponsors.
  • Manage audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and implement operational and system improvements to scale the function as the business grows.
  • Support M&A integration and other special projects as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required, CPA highly preferred.
  • MBA or MPA a plus.
  • 710+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or Controller role.
  • Strong foundation in technical accounting; prior public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Experience in construction, building materials, aggregates, or manufacturing is required.
  • Prior experience in a private equity-backed company is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Sage or QuickBooks preferred); able to learn and adapt to other platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage lean teams, implement process improvements, and support strategic financial decisions.
  • Known as a doer with a high degree of ownership, urgency, and follow-through.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations and diverse employee populations.
  • Ethical, detail-oriented, and confident in high-pressure environments.
