Examinations:

Appraisal (Weight 100%):

Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on investigation, oral examination, and/or review of application. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process. Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:

Possession of an earned doctoral degree in a biological science, laboratory science, or related field from an accredited college or university within one (1) year of the date of hire. Possession of a valid Public Health Microbiologist (PHM) certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Laboratory Field Services (LFS); OR approval from the CDPH Laboratory Field Services to begin training as a Public Health Microbiologist in a State or local Public Health Laboratory. Incumbents may be exposed to pathogenic organisms, acids, caustic or volatile chemicals. They must be willing to be immunized against communicable diseases, including rabies, to handle specimens.
