Leads the development and implementation of recreational programming. Provides supervision and direction to staff when the Facility Supervisor is not present. Works weekends and evenings.SALARY: 6AREPORTS TO: Facility Supervisor - AquaticsPOSITIONS SUPERVISED: 2-3 Lifeguard II, Lifeguard I, and Pool Attendants Typical Duties 1. Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level positions. 2. Provide recreational aquatic activities for children and youth, adults, and persons with disabilities. Prepare daily and monthly lesson plans for all assigned swim classes.3. Issue passes for recreational programs and monitor/enforce proper safety rules in the swimming pool.4. Provide routine clean up and general maintenance of locker rooms and natatorium seating and perform custodial duties.5. Clean, repair , and maintain chemical feed systems and pool equipment. Perform State of Alaska-required pool water testing: calculate, mix and add chemicals while wearing required safety gear.6. Perform lifeguard duties. Supervise and respond to all manner of emergency situations. 7. Inspect facilities to detect and report damage or safety concerns. Monitor and maintain chemical systems to ensure pool safety.8. Inform participants of facility rules and ensure that scheduled activities are enforced. Respond to patrons' questions/needs and refer to the manager when appropriate.9. Responsible for checking patrons in and out of locker rooms on sign-up sheets.10. Assist in the setup and take down of facilities for special events at the swimming pool and tennis courts.11. Open facilities for daily activities; secure and close facilities. Complete daily attendance and revenue reports as required. Balance change fund and reconcile with deposits at end of shift.12. Plan, organize, and implement special events and recreational programs.13. Register participants and communicate with parents, teachers, care providers, and organizations concerning individuals, programs, and events. Evaluate students for proper placement in swim programs. Teach learn to swim and other aquatic lessons. 14. Operate a point-of-sale system, process cash, check, and credit card sales and take facility reservations using recreation scheduling software. Build and maintain online facility programs and schedules and troubleshoot software issues Position Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1. High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer an associate degree or higher in Recreation Management or any related field. 2. Minimum two (2) years of direct work experience organizing events or teaching programs to children and youth, seniors, or individuals with physical or developmental disabilities. 3. Minimum of six (6) months supervisory experience required. 4. A minimum of six (6) months of work experience dealing with the public, operating a personal computer and/or cash register, and handling cash.5. Must possess and maintain certification as a Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) Must be able to obtain Waterpark Lifeguarding within three (3) months of hire.6. Must be at least 18 years old.7. Demonstrated understanding of pool chemical requirements or 3 months of experience in testing and maintaining chemical balance.8. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST.)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants, caregivers, and agencies within the community. 2. Knowledge of methods and practices of group organization and instruction used in specialty activities. 3. Knowledge of State of Alaska DEC health code regulations. Knowledge of basic pool operations, water testing and chemical adjustment. Certified Pool Operators Certification preferred4. Ability to wear a respirator and pass a physical.5. Knowledge of basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, email and other MS office programs. OTHER1. This position requires a criminal background check.2. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.
