A JAB Recruitment client is seeking a full-time Chief Engineer in Galveston, TX. The client is a global leader in petroleum shipping delivering top quality, market-leading services to the world's oil companies, trading houses and refineries. Role summary:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for all operations and maintenance of engineering equipment on the vessel, determines consumables and spare parts inventory for a voyage, oversees fuel transfers and safety inspections, and leads engine room activities during normal operations and emergencies. Licenses issued by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) are required for Offshore Chief Engineers. Key responsibilities Equipment Maintenance : Maintain fuel, lubricating oil, and water supplies; keep maintenance records for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; identify, recommend, and plan modifications; maintain Preventive Maintenance Program. Equipment Repair : Assign repair work on shipboard equipment (diesel engines, electrical, pumps, winches, hydraulics, refrigeration, compressors); repair or replace parts with appropriate tools. Watch Standing : Stand roving engineer watch; operate and maintain the engineering plant; monitor pressures, temperatures, fuel consumption; maintain engineering logs and records. Miscellaneous : Direct firefighting and maintenance of equipment; perform first aid; prepare requests for capital items and parts; train new engineers; schedule watches and daily duties; assist Master with performance appraisals as needed. Supervision : Report to the Master of the vessel for command-related functions and to Technical Services Manager for technical operation, maintenance, and repair; work evaluated against company standards.
Qualifications Designated Duty Engineer, 4000 HP or higher license issued by the USCG. Two years' experience as Chief Engineer on a comparable vessel or equivalent military service. Valid USCG STCW endorsements: III/1 OICEW, III/2, III/3, III/4 RFPEW, III/5 Able Seafarer-Engine, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3 & VI/4. Valid drivers license, TWIC & USCG STCW Medical Certificate. Current passport or ability to obtain. Meet Coast Guard drug testing requirements. Ability to speak, read, and write English.
Physical requirements Ability to continuously stand for long periods. Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and ladders, and lift frequently (up to 80 pounds or more). Ability to work in various sea conditions and in offshore environments with temperature variations.
