Job Opportunity With Culver City Unified School District

The Culver City Unified School District is offering a part-time regular position within the Office of Child Development. The salary range for this position is $18.36 to $22.41 hourly. The location for this job is Culver City, CA. The position is open for continuous applications. The job involves preschool and before and after school programs. Essential duties include: Assisting in providing care, supervision, and instruction to preschool and school-age children in a classroom or other learning environment. Providing children with proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance; assisting the teacher with the development and implementation of classroom activities. Assisting individual and small groups of children with projects and assignments; assisting children with letter and word pronunciation and recognition; assisting with planning and implementing a variety of activities to meet the needs and interests of the children; assisting children with homework and classroom assignments; reading age-appropriate stories to students. Observing and controlling behavior of students in the classroom and during outdoor activities according to approved procedures; assisting in the assessment of student skills and progress; reporting progress regarding child performance and behavior; conferring with parents concerning child progress and behavior as appropriate. Performing a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating, and filing instructional materials; logging students in and out of classroom as directed; maintaining student files as assigned. Ensuring the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintaining the learning environment in a safe, orderly, and clean manner; cleaning, setting up, and setting out toys and instructional materials; performing light housekeeping duties including washing dishes, clearing lunch tables, and sweeping floors as assigned. Assisting with snack and lunch time as assigned; preparing snacks; setting up and cleaning eating areas; assisting with washing children's hands and faces after play times and meals as needed; assisting children with toileting as needed. Overseeing and interacting with children during games, play, outings, recreational, and other group activities; overseeing and assisting with naptime functions as assigned. Operating a variety of classroom and office equipment including a computer, copier, paper cutter, and laminator. Overseeing groups of students in the lunchroom, recess, and other playground activities as assigned; escorting children to and from classrooms; ensuring safe outdoor play. Attending assigned meetings, conferences, and in-services. Other duties may include performing related duties as assigned. Knowledge and abilities required include: Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices. Knowledge of classroom procedures and appropriate child conduct. Knowledge of safe practices in classroom and playground activities. Knowledge of basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading. Knowledge of basic instructional methods and techniques. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Knowledge of classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. Knowledge of the operation of standard office and classroom equipment. Knowledge of oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques. Ability to assist with anecdotal record keeping and the Desired Results Developmental Profiles. Ability to assist in providing care, supervision, and instruction to preschool and school-age children in a classroom or other learning environment. Ability to assist with planning and implementing a variety of activities to meet the needs and interests of the children. Ability to assist in the preparation of instructional materials and provide routine clerical support. Ability to assist with eating and housekeeping activities as directed. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to monitor, observe, and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures. Ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment. Ability to observe health and safety regulations. Ability to perform clerical duties related to classroom activities. Ability to maintain records and files. Education and experience required: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) college semester units in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Working conditions: Environment: Classroom and playground environment. Physical demands: Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and/or pull weights up to 50 pounds with lifting devices, lifting belts, or other accommodations, with frequent lifting and carrying of weights up to 25 pounds. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
