ArtCenter College Of Design Art Model Position

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Art Model to join our team. The pay range for this position: $32.00 - 33.62 per hour. Final salary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity. About ArtCenter Founded in 1930 and located in Pasadena, California, ArtCenter College of Design is a global leader in art and design education and has had an international reputation for its rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. ArtCenter is a private nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Art Models pose for studio classes including, but not limited to, figure drawing and painting, head drawing and painting, costumed, portraiture, fashion, sculpture, lighting, photography and cinematography classes. We hire a diverse variety of models, including models of varying ages, genders, physical looks and experience levels. The College's art models are hired as part-time, temporary, as-needed basis. Temporary employees have variable hours and may work for a temporary period due to a short-term need and whose employment will automatically end when the College determines that the need for the employee's services has ended. Due to the nature of the work, this position is primarily an onsite position. Essential Functions Provide a full range of sustained poses (up to 25 minutes), as required by instructor, including gesture, character, quick sketch and anatomical poses Demonstrate the flexibility and animation of the human form The figurative model primarily poses nude (undraped); occasionally requested in Speedo or bikini Physical Demands and Working Environment The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. The position is to be performed on-site as a condition of employment. Environment: Work is performed primarily in a classroom studio setting. Due to the nature of the work, the work station is exposed to bondo, paint, and other artist supplies from studio rooms and direct contact with hazardous waste containers. Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to sustain a full range of poses for up to 25 minutes. Involves constant physical effort that may include gesture, character and anatomical poses. Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction. Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction. Qualifications Previous professional experience as an art model, preferably at a higher level educational institution Knowledge of how the art model demonstrates anatomy, gesture, expression or content in a drawing Awareness of classic and traditional poses in the art tradition Model must be physically able to provide a full range of body gestures and poses, from quick gestures to long, sustained poses Must be able to hold sustained poses (up to 25 minutes) Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times Dance and/or theatrical performance experience is preferred, but not required Costuming, including period clothes, fantasy and contemporary fashion are a plus for our costumed models Reliability and professionalism are essential Highly proficient in schedule management and communication Required Documents: Art Model Rsum specific to art modeling work Two written professional references from any of the following: An artist An art instructor A higher education art student A school or studio who has employed you as an art model Reference photos (not artwork): 2 full-body reference photos (front and back): clear, color images; modest non-nude is preferred (e.g., wearing a bikini or Speedo; or redacted to be non-nude) 2 portrait/head reference photos (front and profile): clear, color images showing head, neck and shoulders; minimal or no make-up preferred; a tank top is suggested to show the neck Costume reference photos: full-body images of yourself in costumes you have available for modeling work Diversity Statement ArtCenter is fully committed to fostering a culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging not only in vision but in practice.
