The Town of Vail is now accepting applications for openings as an Emergency Services Dispatcher. Emergency dispatching is an exciting career that is fast paced, very rewarding & is an essential role in public safety. By providing critical services to the community, as an emergency dispatcher, you can make a difference! Our state-of-the-art communication facility is located in Vail, CO and dispatches emergency service calls 24/7 365 days a year, for 13 public safety agencies in Eagle County. This very important role ensures community safety utilizing phone and radio systems to support county-wide Police, Fire, and EMS agencies. Dispatch duties include, but are not limited to: Receiving, analyzing & prioritizing 911 calls as well as non-emergent phone calls for Police, Fire, and EMS service. Performing Emergency Medical Dispatch when appropriate and giving lifesaving instructions over the phone to callers. Effectively utilizing a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system to prioritize calls, record incident details & identify the status and location of responders in the field. Distributing calls for service for Police, Fire & Medical units according to guidelines. Monitoring radio traffic for Police, Fire & Medical units. Access a secure, nationwide database to look up confidential records for responders, including driver and vehicle registration statuses & warrants. Sending emergency alerts to the public. Applicants who are successful in this role are passionate about helping people and giving back to our community. They also have a curiosity and eagerness to learn more about the Public Safety/Emergency services industry and have the ability to remain calm and professional in a variety of situations. Additional qualifications include: High School diploma or equivalent. Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills. The ability to have emotional control in stressful situations. Can display empathy & compassion. Strong computer and typing skills. Available to work a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and over-night shifts. Guest service, call center or emergency services related experience preferred.
