Joining the Ocean Cargo team as an Underwriting Consultant, you will be responsible for underwriting risks within a specified territory, following our policies, guidelines, and regulations. Responsibilities
1. Underwriting Expertise
Review applications and financials to assess risk acceptability Understand pricing, rating methodology, and use of predictive tools Utilize underwriting tools and strategies to ensure guidelines are followed Maintain thorough account reviews and documentation Manage adverse decisions, rate appeals, and declinations Follow CAT guidelines to minimize exposure Stay updated on relevant regulations and trends 2. Portfolio Management
Manage portfolio to meet financial and growth goals Prioritize resources to optimize producer performance Identify cross-sell opportunities and foster growth Communicate CNA’s product positioning effectively 3. Sales & Distribution Management
Build and maintain sales practices and relationships Develop plans with distributors and monitor performance Manage customer relationships and negotiate effectively Identify cross-sell opportunities and collaborate with underwriters Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of underwriting processes and tools Effective communication skills Customer needs analysis and solution positioning Judgment, negotiation, and decision-making skills Problem-solving and adaptability skills Depending on experience, candidates may be hired as Underwriting Specialist, Consultant, or Director, typically with 3+ years of experience.
