Senior Staff Transformer Design Engineer

This is an onsite role based out of our offices in Little Rock, AR. Those outside the area will need to relocate for this role, relocation assistance is available for this posting. Job Summary/Purpose: The Senior Staff Transformer Design Engineer is an individual contributor, responsible for preparing the electrical design of transformers as well as achieving design innovations and the optimization of the end products in compliance with IEEE design rules, quality standards, cost position, and time schedule. The candidate will be responsible for Electrical Design (Calculations) for order execution (detailed design) as well as for offer calculations/preparation of transformers of all types. This position acts in a lead capacity in a program or system role among peers within a department in a technical discipline, short of a supervisor, but with responsibilities of some level of coordination and/or review. Working in conjunction with other engineering disciplines, this individual will be responsible for system functions such as system planning, asset management, developing design/construction standards, and/or distribution field device automation. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Actively promote strong safety behaviors and ensure the team and suppliers always puts safety first. Perform electrical calculations for overhead and underground transformers and prepare electrical design documents. Prepare technical specifications for ordering of components like Tap changer, Bushings, current transformers, Winding conductors, & Winding assembly insulation components and various accessories. Design the parameters & dimensions of active part of transformer to meet the customer specifications like losses, impedances, noise levels, Short Circuit forces, temperature limits, loading capabilities etc. by performing analysis on High voltage Transients, dielectric, Magnetic, Short Circuit forces, temperature, noise level etc. Understand customer specifications, project requirements, guaranteed technical particulars, prepare design review documents, technical reports, and justifications for the customers. Collaborate with other departments like sales, mechanical design, manufacturing, quality, testing & service departments on technical topics related to electrical design. Effectively communicate among multi-functional teams and participate in various internal and external technical forums, including with Procurement & Supply Chain Lead Team and company executives. Perform incident response/storm duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements: Minimum education required for this position: Bachelor's degree in engineering (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) or other related technical discipline. In lieu of a degree, min of years of 6 years of relevant work experience preferably with demonstrated technical expertise. Master's Degree preferred Minimum experience required for the position: 5 years of experience as a design engineer in the field of Power Transformers and performing calculations using transformer design software tools. Strong conceptual knowledge and working experience of calculations and designing of transformers. Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position: Familiar with the American & international standards (eg. IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformers, transformer components, and materials. Detailed knowledge of materials and components like core grades, winding copper (PICC, CTC etc.), winding assembly insulation parts like barriers, angle rings/caps, oil guide washers, snouts, spacers, supports, tap changers, bushings, transformer accessories and sensors.
