Overview
NY Multilingual Language Learners Teacher/Coordinator Immediate Opening (2025-2026) at Duluth Area Family YMCA. This role plans and provides English Language Development instruction for students identified as needing ELD support, manages language screening and proficiency assessments, and collaborates with classroom teachers and the MLL Director to accelerate English acquisition and content-area learning. This role is highly collaborative and supports the integration of structures and systems across the school to help MLLs thrive. It requires an assets-based mindset toward multilingualism and multiculturalism and acts as a resource for fellow educators regarding multilingual students and research-based practices. Responsibilities
Instruction: Create a classroom environment that engages students and enables achievement of learning objectives; plan and conduct a balanced program of instruction with opportunities to learn, observe, question, and investigate; use various teaching methods and adapt materials to meet language proficiency needs. Assessment and Compliance: Monitor and assess student progress; maintain accurate records; manage the annual language proficiency exam and one-time identification screener; recommend accommodations for assessments; support identification, tracking, and monitoring of MLLs. Collaboration: Work with all classroom teachers and the MLL Director; share information on multilingual students and model best practices; participate in professional development and co-planning. Culture and Safety: Promote a positive school culture that supports multilingual learners; supervise students in various settings and ensure safety of students and school resources; communicate professionally with families and community partners. Qualifications
Two years of teaching experience preferred with a record of high student achievement. Bachelor's degree with a GPA of at least 3.0; Master's degree preferred. New York certification in TESOL or Bilingual Education or in the process of obtaining certification. Compensation & Benefits
