Achievement First MLL Teacher-Coordinator role description and responsibilities for the 2025-26 school year. Overview
Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, plans and provides for English Language Development instruction to students identified as needing ELD support by the districts language dominance criteria. Manages the schools language screening and annual language proficiency assessment, and maintains updated records in necessary systems. Collaborates with classroom teachers to accelerate English language learning and academic content across math, language arts, science, and social studies to achieve academic success and classroom expectations. Implements school MLL procedures and collaborates with the MLL Director and other MLL teachers. Serves as a resource for educators on multilingual students, research-based pedagogy, and asset-based approaches to multilingualism and multiculturalism. This role is highly collaborative and supports the integration of structures and systems across the school for MLLs to thrive. Roles and Responsibilities Instruction Compliance Professional Development Culture
Instruction
Creates a classroom environment that engages students and helps each student achieve learning objectives Plans and conducts a balanced program of instruction with opportunities to learn, observe, question, and investigate Instructs students individually and in groups using various methods such as peer cooperative learning, personalized and blended learning, and co-teaching Adapts teaching methods and materials to meet varying needs and language proficiency progress Monitors and assesses student progress and adjusts instruction accordingly Instructs students in academic subjects as well as social, emotional, and behavioral skills Takes necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
Compliance
Supports the Principal, building leadership team, and district leadership with procedures related to identification, tracking, assessing, and monitoring of MLLs Monitors and evaluates student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records and following required procedures Manages the annual language proficiency exam and the one-time identification screener Makes recommendations about accommodations for assessments Recommends accommodations, adaptations, resources, courses, and classroom adjustments for each MLL student

Participates in district and school-based professional development Develops and evolves teaching practice and supports colleagues through co-planning and/or co-teaching Co-plans and facilitates MLL-specific school-based professional development Promotes shared responsibility for multilingual learners across all school staff Engages in a professional community including common planning, development, and self-reflection
Culture
Fosters a school environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all students Serves as a resource on multilingualism and models an assets-based mindset Maintains positive interactions with families and the community to support multilingualism across home and school contexts Supervises students, ensuring safety and well-being Communicates professionally with students, colleagues, parents, and the community Helps organize MLL family educational initiatives Supports the mission and vision of Achievement First Charter School Network
Educational Background And Work Experience
Two years of teaching experience preferred with a proven record of high student achievement Bachelors degree with a GPA of at least 3.0; Masters degree preferred New York certified in TESOL or Bilingual Education or in process of obtaining certification
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary, typically up to $113,198 depending on experience Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan with match and paid Family Leave
