Staff Accountant About the Company
Our client is a respected insurance provider with a proven record of financial strength and regulatory compliance. They are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their Statutory Reporting team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to critical regulatory filings, support compliance with NAIC and state insurance requirements, and build expertise in statutory accounting within a stable and growing organization. Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will focus on statutory accounting functions including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for quarterly and annual statutory statements. This role will also assist with premium tax filings, regulatory submissions, and audit requests, ensuring compliance with insurance regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, excellent analytical skills, and a keen interest in statutory reporting within the insurance industry. Responsibilities
Prepare statutory journal entries and reconcile key accounts, including premiums, reserves, reinsurance, and statutory adjustments. Assist in the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual NAIC statutory financial statements. Prepare detailed workpapers to support statutory filings and financial disclosures. Assist with state premium tax filings, business licenses, and other regulatory submissions. Monitor statutory accounting guidance and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Partner with internal departments (Claims, Actuarial, Reinsurance) to validate financial data and reserves. Support statutory audits and examinations by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries. Assist with variance analysis of statutory results compared to prior periods and forecasts. Contribute to process improvements to enhance accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in statutory reporting. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 1-3+ years of accounting experience; insurance statutory accounting experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and NAIC reporting requirements. Experience with statutory reporting software or ERP systems (PeopleSoft, Workday, SAP, Oracle, or similar). Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliations). High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet strict deadlines.
