This job is responsible for assisting in the delivery of non-professional nursing care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) in a defined care team and in accordance with the scope of practice. An incumbent performs the basic aspects of general patient care where the services of a registered or licensed practical nurse are not required. Employees assist medical/nursing staff in the examination, treatment and care of patients, including the transport of patients and equipment and assisting in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Essential duties include: Providing patient personal care/hygiene and physical comfort, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, bed making, ambulation, lifting, turning, moving, transferring, skin care and bowel/bladder elimination. Performing, monitoring, reporting and documenting all clinical activities within the scope of practice. Observing and reporting changes in patient condition to the RN. Obtaining labels and transporting a variety of samples (e.g. urine, stool, sputum specimens and blood products). Assisting nursing staff in the admission, discharge and transfer of patient by performing activities such as inventory/storing patient belongings, providing patient with relevant personal care/comfort items, orienting patient/family and transporting patient to room or other location using wheelchairs, stretchers or patient bed. Maintaining a neat and organized work environment. Ordering, stocking and replenishing supplies and equipment as necessary, identifying and reporting problems with supplies or equipment. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program (or military medical specialty training). Six months related work experience preferred. Experience in a hospital setting preferred. Licensure & Certification: Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant by the Washington State Nursing Commission.
