The Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator will play a key role in engaging individuals impacted by substance use, homelessness, and behavioral health issues. This position involves community outreach, education, and distribution of harm reduction materials and services, including naloxone, safer-use supplies, and linkage to care. The coordinator will work directly with at-risk populations in street-based settings, shelters, encampments, and community agencies.
Duties And Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and implement harm reduction outreach strategies across designated service areas. Conduct mobile and street-based outreach to engage individuals using substances and/or experiencing homelessness. Provide education on harm reduction strategies, overdose prevention, and safer use practices. Distribute harm reduction supplies such as naloxone, fentanyl test strips, condoms, hygiene kits, and wound care materials. Establish trusting relationships with participants and provide non-judgmental, client-centered support. Offer linkage to treatment, housing, primary care, and mental health services as needed. Track and report program data, outcomes, and inventory in accordance with grant and organizational requirements. Build partnerships with community agencies, public health departments, and local organizations to strengthen referral networks and increase service access. Attend required training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of harm reduction best practices and public health trends.
Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree in public health, social work, human services, or a related field preferred (lived experience and equivalent work experience considered). Minimum of 2 years of experience in outreach, community engagement, or harm reduction. Deep understanding of harm reduction principles and a strong commitment to serving marginalized populations. Ability to engage individuals using a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach. Familiarity with issues related to substance use, mental health, housing instability, and healthcare access. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation Seniority level
