Overview
The Sensors Division specializes in the development of advanced sensor systems, with a focus on airborne and surface-based radar, space-based sensing, electronic warfare, and underwater acoustics. This position is within the Space Missions and Sensing (SMS) Sector of the Sensors Division, where we develop and deliver technology to advance space-based sensing, space control, and counter-sensing missions. The Role
SMS is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to support the development, implementation, and integration of real-time processing solutions in software for advanced multi-function radar systems. You will implement and integrate digital signal processing over the complete signal processing chain for closed loop radar operations and conduct performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate and optimize the products you create. The system will be deployed operationally, so the products you develop must meet standards of quality, maintainability, and reuse. This role offers opportunities for technical growth in system design, novel implementations, integration, and fielding of radar systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated contributions in areas such as software engineering, system integration, radar signal processing, and test & evaluation. This position requires skills in working with multi-disciplinary teams, an interest in signal processing, and the ability to develop and deliver system solutions for operations. Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required. The applicant is expected to be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of effective communication. What you will do
Support development of innovative radar systems through implementation of digital signal processing (DSP). Support system-level integration with Hardware in the Loop testing, and fielding of ground system for closed-loop operations. Design and implement signal processing software solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and/or develop system requirements and specifications. Conduct performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate and optimize system performance. Communicate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders to convey technical concepts and project updates. Support documentation, design specifications, test plans, and reports as needed. Who you are
Active Security Clearance at the Secret level, for which U.S. citizenship is required by the U.S. government. Demonstrated experience implementing software engineering solutions in C++. Working knowledge of digital signal processing. Some experience preparing and delivering briefings, familiarity with technical reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS). Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of applicable experience; Master’s degree and at least 5 years of applicable experience; or PhD and at least 2 years of applicable experience. Equivalent experience will be considered. Even Better
Understanding of radar systems and their design, development, requirements verification, test planning/execution, and data analysis. Experience implementing algorithms in software for real-time systems, especially radar and/or remote sensing. Experience with MATLAB, CUDA, or embedded software. Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with team members to ensure alignment. STR is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to hiring the most qualified candidate regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. If you need a reasonable accommodation for any portion of the employment process, please email us at appassist@str.us and provide your contact info. Pursuant to applicable federal law and regulations, positions at STR may require national security clearances and compliance with export control laws.
