Overview
Director of Communications — The Director of Communications is responsible for prioritizing and effectively communicating church opportunities, themes, missions, events, and information. This role encompasses creating and maintaining communication avenues and managing the entire online presence to ensure a cohesive and impactful communications strategy.

HBUMC is growing in relationship with God and confidently reaching out in mission to our community and the world.
HBUMC supports energetic ministries across generations, including spiritual formation classes, small groups, a dynamic music ministry, and international and domestic mission opportunities.
Responsibilities
Prioritize and communicate church opportunities, themes, missions, and events; identify and prioritize key opportunities for communication.
Develop and implement strategic communication plans to convey the church’s message to the congregation and broader community.
Monitor communications from the United Methodist Church, NC Conference, and other churches to maintain awareness and consistency.
Establish and maintain communication channels (newsletters, bulletins, mailings, social media, website).
Coordinate with ministries and teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all channels.
Monitor online worship and engage with the online congregation.
Develop graphics for communication channels and digital media.
Collaborate with leadership, staff, and volunteers to gather information and ensure accurate communication.
Manage internal communications and event registration software platforms.
Coordinate with and support communications and public relations lay leaders.
Provide leadership to staff, lay leaders, and contractors to develop work plans and monitor quality and timeliness of outputs.
Oversee the church’s online presence (website, social media, and other digital platforms) and create engaging content.
Monitor and respond to online interactions to foster a positive and inclusive online community.
Recognize and celebrate exemplary behaviors and achievements.
Note: duties and responsibilities may shift based on the needs of the church.
Qualifications
At least a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
Proven experience in communications, public relations, or a related role.
Proficient in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and website content management systems.
Proficient in graphic design using tools like Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactically.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Experience managing relationships with outsource firms, contractors, and vendors.
Experience with a customer relationship manager (CRM) such as Constant Contact.
