About the Role
The Company is in search of a Chief Development Officer and President of the Foundation to spearhead the strategic design and execution of a national fundraising program. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the program is in line with the company's reputation for innovation and excellence, and will be tasked with expanding the donor base and philanthropic revenue through the adoption of best practices and the development of creative strategies. This role involves supervising a small team and providing oversight for a larger, geographically distributed development staff across various fundraising areas. The CDO will also be a key member of the executive management team, working closely with the President and CEO, the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Directors to strengthen a culture of philanthropy and build relationships that advance the company's mission. Applicants for the CDO position at the company should embody the highest standards of professionalism in fundraising and be prepared to serve as a mentor and role model for a team of development professionals. The role requires a lead ambassador who can engage with high-level partners and donors, and who is committed to ensuring that fundraising strategies are mutually beneficial. The ideal candidate will have a compelling case for support, driven by the company's journalistic excellence and the urgency of safeguarding independent journalism. Experience in frontline fundraising, as well as a deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape, is essential. The CDO will be expected to work closely with the company's Member Stations to achieve both national and local fundraising goals, and to contribute to the overall mission of providing high-quality, independent content that is vital to the lives of the American public and people around the world.
