Overview
A postdoctoral position in physical oceanography is available at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) of the University of California San Diego. The postdoctoral researcher will work on the Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Project (OSNAP), an NSF-funded project that is part of a large, international effort to quantify the transport of heat, freshwater, and mass in the subpolar North Atlantic from moorings and other data. The SIO OSNAP project is focused on the Irminger Sea, including transports along the southeast Greenland shelf and slope and linkages to freshwater inputs from Greenland and the Arctic.
Responsibilities
Conduct independent, high-quality research in physical oceanography.
Publish papers and present work at national and international conferences.
Collaborate with oceanographers at OSNAP partner institutions both within and outside of the US.
Qualifications
PhD in physical oceanography or a related field required by the time of appointment.
Experience in collecting and analyzing physical oceanographic data is desirable but not indispensable.
Strong oral and written communication skills expected.
Salary Commensurate with the individual’s experience and education.
