Since 2019, and in partnership with Community Corporation of Santa Monica, Safe Place for Youth, Holos Communities and The People Concern, Growing Hope Gardens successfully opened and expanded 15 urban, organic, regenerative resident food gardens and fruit trees, and a 1/4 acre farm, at distinct affordable housing and homeless shelter properties in Los Angeles County. All of the resident food gardens are supported with bi-monthly maintenance visits, with the goals of helping the gardens thrive and increasing onsite resident knowledge and stewardship. This approach maximizes chances of success at growing food and supports resident engagement. Educational signage informs how harvest, care, nutritional content, and suggested use are placed each season in the gardens. We also support the increase in plant-based knowledge with our online portal. What you’ll do
Gather your team for a hands-on day at our ¼-acre regenerative urban farm. You’ll help with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, and other seasonal activities that keep our farm & gardens thriving and provide fresh food for nearby affordable and permanent supportive housing communities. No gardening experience is needed—just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and grow something good together. Groups are invited to come early or stay after to enjoy lunch at our shaded picnic-style tables. Details

No prior gardening experience required. Ability to work as part of a team and engage in hands-on, community-focused volunteer work. Willingness to participate in a one-day or extended team event as arranged.
