Overview
Special Police Officer (250002K5) - CNHS Special Police Officers (SPOs) provide protective services for patients, families, staff, and property of Children\'s National Health System (CNHS). They respond to emergency situations, enforce hospital policies, and operate within the laws of the District of Columbia. SPOs maintain a tactful and courteous demeanor while performing duties. They utilize access control technology to ensure safety and patrol the campus to proactively identify risks, frequently collaborating with medical professionals to advance patient safety. Qualifications
Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED (Required) Minimum Work Experience 2 years of work experience as a Special Police Officer (Preferred) Required Skills/Knowledge Valid US Driver\'s license; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods; ability to climb stairs in emergencies; ability to wear department issued body armor; ability to work outdoors if necessary; ability to handle volatile situations under stress; familiarity with Microsoft Office; excellent customer service skills; knowledge of the criminal code in Washington, DC; experience as an emergency responder (law enforcement, fire/rescue, military); knowledge of HIPAA rules and restrictions Required Licenses and Certifications Special Police Officer commission from the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department; Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate (Required) Functional Accountabilities
Safety Perform productive security patrols of the hospital, garage and perimeter; recognize conditions which compromise security or safety and take immediate action to mitigate; submit work orders to correct safety/security violations discovered during patrols. Immediately notify supervisors of security/safety-related problems or issues. Take proactive measures to mitigate thefts, disturbances and other criminal incidents. Check that visitors and staff have proper identification badges/passes; address non-compliance; adhere to policies regarding visitor management. Adhere to post orders for all fixed and patrol positions. Emergency Response
Ensure timely and appropriate response for emergency situations. Follow applicable policies, procedures and directives based on the emergency. De-escalate disruptive behavior. Remain in control of emotions and manage others\' acting-out behavior without taking it personally. Organizational Accountabilities
