Salary: $3,347.07 - $5,734.00 Monthly Location: Baton Rouge, LA Job Type: Classified Job Number: TRSL_082025_AH Department: Teachers' Retirement System of LA Division: Retirement Opening Date: 08/20/2025 Closing Date: 8/30/2025 11:59 PM Central This position is responsible for examining, processing, and determining eligibility for Disability, Service, and Initial Lump Sum Benefit (ILSB) retirement applications. An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies: Communicating Effectively: The ability to relay information correctly and appropriately to connect people and ideas. Displaying Expertise: The ability to exhibit specialized skills or knowledge gained from experience or training. Making Accurate Judgments: The ability to form an opinion objectively and decisively based on relevant information and in accordance with established standards. Learning Actively: The ability to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to improve performance and achieve organizational goals. Thinking Critically: The ability to objectively question, analyze, interpret, and evaluate information to form a conclusion. Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in employee benefits; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree. Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Job Duties: Determines member eligibility for benefits, computes estimated and final retirement benefit payments, and calculates disbursements from member accounts and tax-sheltered and tax-recoverable contributions. Confers and composes correspondence on a variety of retirement-related subjects to school boards, colleges and universities, state agencies, other retirement systems, and individuals. Counsels and communicates with members on highly complex situations regarding a variety of requests for information. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This vacancy may be filled as a Probational, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty. Detail to Special Duty may be required for a trial period prior to promotion consideration. Current classified permanent status employees may be required to accept a Probational Appointment. Career Progression: This position may be filled from this recruitment as a Retirement Benefit Analyst 1, 2, 3, or 4, depending on experience.
