Overview
I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation, founded in 2012, began as a mentoring program for at-risk female youth in New York City Authority Housing. Under the leadership of CEO Shanequa Moore, the organization expanded to support vulnerable children and youth. This is a volunteer board member role for a 2-year term (renewable), with nationwide location preference for candidates in Atlanta, GA, and New York City. The organization is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit led by BIPOC and women, providing educational support, parent support, mental health services, and related programs to underserved communities. Mission: Every child deserves equal opportunities to succeed, and I'RAISE offers services to help families and children unlock their full potential and thrive. Responsibilities, together with fellow board members, guide the strategic direction and growth of the nonprofit.
Responsibilities
Governance: Participate in board meetings, provide input on key decisions, and adhere to ethical and legal standards governing nonprofit organizations. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with fellow board members to develop and implement the organization's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and vision. Fundraising: Actively engage in fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant writing, and event participation, to support financial sustainability. Finance Oversight: Provide financial expertise and oversight by
Reviewing and approving the annual budget Monitoring financial performance and reports to ensure sound fiscal management Providing expertise and support with Form-990 Collaborating with the finance committee to develop financial strategies and policies
Advocacy: Advocate for the organization's mission and programs in local communities and beyond. Annual Mandatory Events: Attend the three annual events and participate as applicable, including
Annual Charity Event (December): Support and participate in the largest fundraising event of the year Annual Gala (December): Attend and contribute to this fundraising event Annual Retreat (August): Join board members for strategic planning, team building, and reflection
Committee Involvement: Serve on board committees or task forces as needed in areas such as finance, marketing, or program development.
Qualifications
Deep commitment to the organization's mission and values 2 years of professional or volunteer board experience in nonprofit management, governance, or related field Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team Access to reliable internet and tools for virtual meetings
