We are growing rapidly and seeking an experienced, strategic, and self-driven Controller to join our leadership team. The

Controller

oversees all core accounting operations for the company, including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, billing, payroll, and cash flow forecasting. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains internal controls, and supports compliance with regulatory and audit requirements. The Controller also manages/supports project and construction accounting, supervises insurance-related financial processes, and leads a team of accounting professionals while collaborating closely with development, construction, HME Care, and property management teams to support the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Accounting Leadership

Oversee all general ledger accounting and ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.

Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP.

Supervise and manage the accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions.

Lead the billing and collections processes, ensuring timely invoicing and follow-up.

Manage cash flow forecasting, including daily cash position monitoring and short-term liquidity planning.

Oversee bank reconciliations and ensure proper cash management across multiple entities and projects.

Payroll & Benefits Accounting

Supervise payroll processing, including coordination with HR and third-party providers.

Ensure accurate accounting for employee benefits, taxes, and other payroll-related liabilities.

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

Project & Construction Accounting

Implement and manage job cost accounting systems for development and construction projects.

Track and report on project budgets, commitments, change orders, and actual costs.

Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate cost-to-complete and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.

Insurance & Risk Management (Accounting Oversight)

Maintain high-level oversight of insurance policies, including property, liability, and workers' compensation.

Coordinate with brokers and legal teams on claims tracking and policy renewals.

Ensure proper accounting for insurance premiums, reserves, and reimbursements.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.

Coordinate the annual review and tax preparation completed by third party CPA firms.

Ensure compliance with loan covenants, investor reporting requirements, and other financial obligations.

Systems & Process Improvement

Lead implementation and optimization of accounting software and ERP systems.

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all accounting functions.

Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

Manage and mentor the accounting team, including staff and senior accountants.

Collaborate cross-functionally with development, construction, HME Care, property management, and executive teams.

Provide financial insights and support to operational leaders for decision-making.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Controller or senior financial executive in a real estate-focused company, preferably with experience in senior living management.

Strong analytical skills and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret data and trends to drive business decisions.

Exceptional leadership and communication skills.

Additional Details:

The Controller will report directly to the President.

In-office position preferred to help foster new relationships and collaborate with existing team members. Hybrid option may be available at President's discretion.
