Summary

The Shipping Department Lead is responsible for overseeing daily shipping and receiving operations in a fast-paced bakery warehouse environment. This role ensures that all incoming and outgoing shipments of raw materials, packaging supplies, and finished baked goods are handled accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety standards. The Shipping Department Lead works closely with the Shipping Supervisor, production teams, and the shipping crew to maintain accurate inventory flow, meet delivery schedules, and uphold operational and safety standards. This position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities while leading a team.

Key Responsibilities

Shipping & Receiving Operations

Prepare and review shipping documents, including bills of lading (BOLs), packing lists, and invoices, ensuring proper recordkeeping.

Collaborate with the receiving team to verify that incoming shipments are accurately recorded, inspected, and stored in the correct locations.

Load and unload delivery trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment as required.

Follow First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory procedures to maintain product freshness and compliance with food safety guidelines.

Perform basic visual quality inspections on products to ensure they meet company standards..

Ensure compliance with OSHA and SDS Standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Inventory Management

Assist with basic inventory counts, stock organization, and tracking of raw materials, packaging supplies, and finished goods.

Monitor inventory levels and communicate potential shortages to the Shipping Supervisor and management in a timely manner.

Ensure materials and products are available, properly stored, and documented in real time using inventory and logistics software.

Maintain stock par levels within the production facility.

Leadership & Team Coordination

Provide direction, training, and oversight to shipping personnel to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.

Lead by example in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Support the Shipping Supervisor in assigning daily tasks and monitoring team performance.

Safety & Compliance

Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and ensure team members do the same.

Maintain the shipping and receiving area in compliance with food safety regulations, including FDA, HACCP, and GMP standards.

Actively participate in safety meetings and enforce adherence to safety protocols.

Communication

Maintain strong working relationships with coworkers across departments.

Communicate shipment updates, operational concerns, and safety issues to the Shipping Supervisor in a timely manner.

Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in all interactions.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certifications in logistics or supply chain management preferred.

Minimum

3 years of shipping/receiving experience , with at least

1 year in a lead or supervisory role .

Experience in a food manufacturing or bakery environment strongly preferred.

Knowledge of food safety and handling standards (GMP, HACCP) required.

Proficient in inventory and logistics software (e.g., ERP, WMS, Excel).

Forklift certification preferred.

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to read and write English; bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and follow established timelines.

Working Conditions

Work performed in a bakery warehouse environment with exposure to temperature variations (freezer, dry storage, heat).

Regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting required throughout the shift.
