Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) at Thomas Jefferson University, a premier medical college located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is seeking a seasoned professor with a strong track record of NIH-funding and experience leading scientific programs to serve as an Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CTS) and the Principal Investigator for a Clinical and Translational Sciences UM1 submission (CTSA). Founded in 1824, Jefferson Medical College, now Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC), has a long history of research and innovation. The medical school currently has over $66 million in total NIH awards and has over $200 million in research expenditures. There are over 400 investigators leading over 1,200 studies. The organization has strong research programs in basic, clinical, health service and population health. The position would look to organize these assets, address gaps and build necessary partnerships to achieve the goal of becoming a CTSA hub and ultimately strategically unite the business of healthcare with the academic and scientific base to enhance medical education and community impact. Essential Functions Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Organize SKMC research assets, address gaps and build necessary partnerships to achieve the goal of becoming a CTSA hub. Identify opportunities to strategically unite the business of healthcare with the academic and scientific base to enhance medical education and community impact. Provide leadership to expand and sustain SKMC's translational research portfolio, including ongoing planning, monitoring, analysis and assessment. Oversee dissemination and implementation activities to support innovative approaches to identifying and developing strategies to promote adoption and integration of evidence-based practices, interventions, and policies into routine health care and public health settings to improve the impact on population health. Identify opportunities to cultivate an environment where CTS and training for clinical research professionals can flourish. Identify opportunities to build a community of scientists committed to diversity and inclusive excellence and to advance and sustain a scientific environment and institutional culture that positively impacts faculty development, retention, progression, and eventual promotion. Key Qualifications & Experiences An MD/DO/MD-PhD or equivalent international degree, current board certification, and licensed/eligibility to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. National recognition as a senior physician-scientist with demonstrated leadership in large programs in T3 and T4 translational research. Experience and involvement in an ongoing CTSA program or a program of similar caliber is strongly preferred. Experience leading scientific programs demonstrated by a strong track record of NIH-funding. Experience in creating, providing and disseminating innovative research programs and partnerships within an organization, between organizations and with communities to address health equity and deliver the benefits of translational research. Experience mentoring and developing trainees and junior faculty members in research careers that enhances equity. Experience building comprehensive medical research and educational programs with administrative leadership (including experience as a dean, chair, senior associate dean, center/institute director or comparable position) in a complex academic medical environment.
