Senior Food Scientist, Ice Cream & Frozen Novelties
This Senior Food Scientist, Ice Cream position, within Human Health & Nutrition R&D team, will leverage their scientific training and industrial experience to develop and scale-up new products and systems for the ice cream and frozen novelty markets. This individual will lead product development which includes formulation, testing, commercialization, cost reduction and quality improvement efforts of this segment. Ability to work cross-functionally to determine goals and timetables for projects; ensure diligence in development, scale up, and commercialization of products; to drive innovation and deliver on business goals is required. Essential Functions:
Lead and champion a culture of safety. Formulate new innovations, flavor improvements and cost innovation projects and demonstrates knowledge and expertise in product development and innovation. Responsible for scaling up new products, evaluating new raw materials/ingredients, and process development and technology assessments as required Ensures diligence in development, scale up and commercialization of products and technologies. Work with customers to provide formulation expertise, provide product specifications and necessary manufacturing procedure documents. Drives change in a complex, fast-paced business environment. Develop strong relationships with operations, quality, and procurement to implement solutions Conceptual, creative and analytic problem solving - the ability to break down complex issues and simplify by focusing on what matters. Leverage technical and functional expertise to solve broader business issues. Understand the commercialization process with proven experience of its application. Ability to learn new categories quickly and provide appropriate guidance. Achieve end-to-end success by taking ideas from their conceptual stage to marketplace execution. A professional who believes that the consumer is the starting point for all R&D activities. Have a proven track record of delivering extraordinary results. Take an independent and disciplined approach to organizing work activity, prioritizing tasks, and analysis; will also seek out additional projects and activities to drive the business forward Meet with customers and represent Balchem-s technology as required. Requirements:
This position requires a Food Scientist with expertise ice cream formulation and product development including the development of wide array of bases, variegates, and other preparations commonly used in the ice cream and frozen novelty categories Bachelor-s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or similar Minimum 7+ years of experience in Process Development, New Product Development and/or Process Scale-up is required in Ice Cream Industry Knowledge and experience with principals of food processing, food science, food and dairy chemistry, biochemistry, wet processing, liquid and dry mixing/blending, and liquid and dry packaging are essential to successfully perform job An understanding of processing equipment utilized is required (i.e. vats, steam kettles, liquid and dry mixing/blending equipment, liquid and dry packaging, homogenizer, HTST) Ability to conduct experimental design tests and accurately report results in a manner suitable for presentation to customers and management Knowledge of plant operations to assist and support production as required Collaborative, problem solving, good communication and ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as with others are skills for good job performance Ability to go from the lab/benchtop process to pilot plant and then to the manufacturing plant is a must Detail oriented and multitasking is a must Excellent written and verbal communication skills Complete computer skills required (Microsoft office, Genesis, etc) A solid track record of successful new technology development, new product innovation, and commercializing of new products Computer skills including Excel, Word, and product formulation software tools required Collaborative skills allowing effective interactions with Marketing teams, Operations and Manufacturing Teams, Quality and Regulatory Compliance Teams and Senior Management
