VSE Corporation SUMMARY:
The Engineering Manager takes charge of the engineering department to deliver efficient and innovative solutions to support our MRO operations. This role directs a team of engineers and technical professionals in managing projects, developing repair capabilities, designing and maintaining equipment and tooling, executing reverse engineering initiatives, and ensuring accurate technical data management. The Engineering Manager assures all engineering activities meet regulatory requirements and align with the company goals for quality, cost, and technical customer support. This role works cross-functionally with departments to support the MRO business initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, mentor, and coach a team of engineers and technical staff to achieve departmental goals. Assign projects, establish priorities, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion. Promote a collaborative, safety-focused, and continuous improvement culture. Manage team performance, timekeeping, training, and professional development. Communicating the goals of the company to all engineers and professionals in the team.
Project & Program Management
Oversee engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and deadlines. Coordinate cross-functional support with Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Service. Track project milestones, mitigate risks, and communicate status to stakeholders. Responsible for planning and notifying affected repair station departments of potential downtime caused by scheduled equipment calibrations or repairs.
Equipment & Tooling Oversight
Manage the design, development, procurement, and maintenance of specialized MRO equipment and tooling. Ensure periodic inspection, calibration, and recordkeeping of precision tools and equipment. Evaluate and approve tooling equivalencies in compliance with ARINC 668 and regulatory standards.
Repair Capability Development & Reverse Engineering
Lead efforts to develop new repair capabilities, including process design, tooling needs, and validation testing. Direct reverse engineering activities to reproduce or improve obsolete or difficult-to-source components. Ensure repair methods comply with authoritative FAA/EASA regulations and OEM requirements.
Technical Data Management
Oversee the creation, revision, and control of engineering drawings, repair manuals, and process documentation. Maintain accurate, secure, and accessible technical data in compliance with regulatory and company policies. Support audits and customer requests with complete and traceable engineering documentation.
Additional Responsibilities
Approve designs, processes, and project budgets. Perform cost, material, and labor estimations for projects. Conduct quality control checks on systems, processes, and products. Support investigations, corrective actions, and process improvements. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Avionics or a related field, or an additional 3 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree. A minimum of 7 years of relevant engineering experience, including and 4 years of leadership experience Strong knowledge of engineering principles, MRO operations, and regulatory compliance (FAA/EASA). Demonstrated success in project management and cross-functional coordination. Experience with reverse engineering, tooling design, and repair process development. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Requirements
10+ years of engineering work experience 8+ years in the aviation industry Lean / Six Sigma or other process improvement certifications. Experience with CAD, technical data management systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
